Abstract art is a art form, where the average person will look and not understand the purpose composition or meaning, it is a form of art design which attracts a wide variety of people and art love, but in the art world, abstract art attracts a variety of people. Modern abstract art had its origins between 1910 and 1920 emerging in Europe and North America. It has followed after centuries of representational artists and has become very popular. You can find abstract art just about everywhere and represented in many forms such as paintings and sculptures.
However Abstract art had its origins much earlier than 1910 and began in the avant-garde movements of the late 19th century – Impressionism, neo-Impressionism, and post-Impressionism. These styles of painting reduced the significance of the original subject matter and began to emphasize the painting and the creative process itself.
Abandoning the late 19th century European idea that art should imitate nature Abstract art does not strive to create accurate representations of any forms or objects. Artists employing the style take an object and either simplify or exaggerate it by altering its color shape and form.
There are three major forms of abstract art, these being .
- neoplasticism (1920-1940), and
- abstract expressionism (1940-1955)
Abstract art has a rich history and is filled by many talented and well known artists. Among those artists, the most famous cubists were Pablo Picasso and Georges. Piet Mondrian's works are one of the best examples of neoplasticism. Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock are excellent examples of abstract expressionism.
Abstract art is very powerful in that it keeps the conscious distractions to a minimum. When you look at a representational art piece your mental energy goes to processing the images and the background. However, when you look at an abstract design, you are not distracted by meaningful images, so most all of your brain power is spent on feeling. You can actually open yourself up and let the energy and spirit of the painting in.
Abstraction reached its pinnacle as an accepted form of fine art in the twentieth century. Wassily Kandinsky was the original abstract artist producing the first completely abstract work of art in 1910. Two years later he wrote a theory on abstract art called On the Spiritual in Art. In this publication he emphasized the general theory among Abstract artists that art should portray the spiritual realm and not just the visual world.
